The Story of Taki

On October 27, 2005, Kelly was driving home through Franklin canyon when she saw what looked like a dog lying by the side of the road. Pulling over her heart broke when she saw the condition the dog was in. Dehydrated, more than half-starved, missing most of her fur, ears and skin infected, this was the worst case of abuse/neglect she had ever seen. She was so bad that a pack of coyotes had gathered not more than 20 few yards away waiting to attack and eat her once it got dark. If left there, there was no way the dog would survive the night. While her physical condition was grave, Kelly could see there was a special spirit and light in her eyes. It was instantly clear; if she could get the dog into her van and take it to the vet, and if she survived, this would be our new family dog. She called Ross to bring his van to pick her up because the dog's fur was so badly gone it looked like she might have mange, which is hightly contagious, and she had their dog Sarah with her. So they loaded Taki into Ross' van and he took her to the vet. Shocked at her condition, the Vet's office had never seen a dog that looked so bad. We could only pray she would make it. The dog indeed survived the night, and began to eat and drink. It was clear she would be ok! We decided to name her Taki. (Taki is the Mongolian word for "spirit". It is also the name of a breed of wild asiatic horse. The Taki horse was close to being wiped out. But through the intervention of Man, and the horse's own strong will, the breed was brought back from the edge of extinction and now thrives.) We brought her home a few days later. What is most amazing is that despite the hell she has been through (She is between 6 years and 8 years) she is amazingly well adjusted. She loves other dogs, loves all people, and makes herself feel right at home. We know it will be a long road back to health, but the love in her eyes makes it all worth it. We have created this page to keep all of Taki's fans up to date on her progress (Our special thanks to all of our clients who have been so supportive and have loved her so much already!) It will be a long and difficult road back for Taki, but her spirit will pull her through!
